Wake Up Your Skin

Wake Up Your Skin

wake-up-your-skinGuess what? I’m not a morning person. Not even close. I could still sleep till noon everyday if I let myself. I thought once your teenage years were over, you somehow turn into an adult and can wake up at 7:00am (or 9:00am for that matter) without a problem. Welp, not for me. But one thing I have learned is how to make my skin look like I’ve slept 12 hours when I’ve really only slept 6. The key is a few simple tricks that wake up your skin from the inside, creating a natural, healthy glow. Take a look at my must-haves below that are sure to wake up your skin!

1. Hot water with lemon

I’ve heard so much about this hot water and lemon trend and when I finally tried it for myself, I totally got what all the hype was about. First of all, as a pathetic cook, this is the easiest thing to make – even at 7:00 in the morning when my brain isn’t working yet. Also, taking a sip first thing in the morning is just what my taste buds need. It’s light, fresh, and instantly wakes me up. The citrus is what wakes up your skin. You’ll notice a healthier glow and more color to your skin when you start drinking this every morning.

2. Use the right moisturizer

It’s important to use a different moisturizer in the morning then you do at night. Your skin needs different ingredients in the morning, and if you’re looking for an affordable moisturizer that does the job right, I recommend Olay Fresh Effects. The Olay Fresh Effects {Dew Over!} Hydrating Gel Moisturizer is made with the essence of honeysuckle and white tea, which are perfect for keeping your skin hydrated and energized. Plus, it’s made with a powder that prevents your skin from getting oily throughout the day. It’s lightweight too so it’s perfect for wearing under your makeup.

3. Exfoliate

Twice a week, try exfoliating your skin, either with an exfoliating cleanser or simply with a face brush or washcloth. Exfoliating your skin removes all those dead skin cells and speeds up your skin’s natural renewal process. This not only reveals newer, fresher skin, but also allows your skin to absorb your moisturizer even better. Exfoliating also helps even out your skin tone, which can definitely leave it looking brighter and more awake.

4. Eat Fruits Rich in Antioxidants

In the morning, opt for highly saturated fruits (like strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and even papaya). These fruits are rich in antioxidants and have tons of vitamins and minerals that are great for your skin. Starting off your day with these fruits is sure to make your skin look healthy and more awake.

5. Wear Colors That Flatter Your Skin Tone

It’s a simple solution with major results. Wearing the right colors for your skin tone makes a huge difference in making your skin look more awake. If your skin has cooler undertones, it’s best to wear colors with pink, red or bluish undertones (like blue, turquoise, purple, magenta, mint, lavender, etc.). If your skin has warmer undertones, opt for colors with yellow, peachy, or golden undertones (like red, orange, green, peach, chartreuse, etc.). Not sure what color skin tone you have? This article offers great tips on how to figure out your skin’s undertones.
