Help Me Design My New Bedroom!
posted on July 3, 2013 | by Amanda Holstein
As I gear up for my big move to my new apartment, I’ve been daydreaming constantly about every room. As I mention in this post, sometimes I struggle between two different interior styles and just can’t make a decision. I’ve been really focusing on my bedroom decor this time around, wanting it to be a truly comfortable and relaxing place that makes me happy every time I walk in the room. I’ve come up with two very different looks for my bedroom and I need your help choosing which one to go for.
Should I go with option 1…
Headboard | Bedding | Pillow 1, 2, 3 | Tray | Lamp | Rug | Bedside Table
Or option 2…
Headboard | Bedding | Pillow 1, 2, 3 | Clock | Lamp | Rug | Bedside Table
So, what do you think?? Help me decide in your comments below!

#1 will probably be more relaxing, but I do really like #2…. (I have the same problem, I love calm, all neutral, lots of white rooms…and crazy colorful boho rooms.)

soft and feminine! i love calming colors in the bedroom.

I moved last year and had a very similar issue! I would suggest starting out with a lot of neutrals/white for the bigger things (furniture, bedding, etc) and then adding pops of color as you go along. This also makes it easier to change in the future, which is super helpful. Good luck! I’m sure whatever you choose will be beautiful.

I always go with Option 1 for the skeleton, with those basics/neutrals you can change small details over time without getting sick of the overall interior. Option 2 would lead me towards re-doing my bedroom after about a year. So, Option 1 and maybe add a couple colorful (inexpensive) details from option 2 that you can swap in and out as time goes on.

i really like #1. i would say start with that and you can always add color in later.

I like #1 more, because it just seems more calming/soothing for a bedroom! You could totally go more bright colors & tribal in the rest of your house, but the first one seems like a great palette for a relaxing retreat! :)
Congrats on the big move! <3

I like both but gravitate more towards option 2! I like the idea of others have mentioned about combining elements from both. Maybe do some brighter colored accent pillows or lamp?

I think you should go with #1! Bedrooms should be calming places, and you can always change out some pillows or something when you need something different. Option 2 would be a great color scheme for like an office or someplace you like to feel energized!
Camille Says
I love option #1! I usually favor softer color schemes for bedrooms because they provide the ability to create a serene and peaceful atmosphere. I love color, but I usually save it for the livelier rooms like a living room or office. Both designs are gorgeous though!

Bold and beautiful – a white background and then brightly coloured accents like cushions etc. It’s summer! Have some fun! If you have the white base, once it starts to get cold you can switch to soft and feminine by replacing the bright cushions and throws with pale pink ones and have the best of both worlds!
Amanda Says
option 1 gives you more to work with in case you change your mind. The colors are so light, so you can add some bold blacks or greys OR you can always add in colors from the BOLD selection later.
Aman Says
I would defiantly go with option #1, because you ever do want bright colors in your room, a great way to add would be maybe with flowers?

So tough–I really like both!! I think number one is more likely to be a bit more timeless!
Helen Says
Option 2! I love when someone’s room says something about them the moment you walk in.
Avital Says
#1 definitely! Calming and soft colors are the way to go.
Shannon Says
personally loving option 2 for all the fun and bright colors, but if you want a more sophisticated look then definitely number one!

I like option 1, just because I think it’s easier to add different accessories and decorations later to that one to change up the feel of the room quickly. The second one has a more defined color scheme so it’s a little harder to change when you get bored with your room design.
Karen Says
I like option 1! I’ve always preferred calming colors for my bedroom.
Sarah@Willowbrook Says
option 1 is more calming for a bedroom, however option 2 will allow you more scope and variety for adding different colours and accessories later on. Option 2 you can build on the colours of the bedspread or pick up a colour from one of the cushions.
