Easy DIY Art

You know when you go to an art gallery and you see a piece and say, “Why would I buy something I could do myself?”. Well now’s your chance to do it yourself. It really is easy to create simple pieces of artwork for your home. Making your own art is also a great way to pull together a few different colors that are already in your apartment into one cohesive piece.

Here’s how:

You just need some paint (I use acrylic), a couple brushes (2 sizes is just fine), and some paper (thick paper that can handle paint). You can either buy the exact colors you want, or mix them yourself. If you do mix them yourself, start with the three primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and use a lot of white. That’s how I created the colors in mine. Dip your brush in just a dab of water and experiment with mixing the colors until you find ones you like.

Then just swirl your brush on the paper in whatever way you want! Be sure to leave a bit of white space and don’t paint over the colors too much. The great thing about acrylic paint is you can paint over any mistakes pretty easily. For an added effect, I soaked my brush in water, swirled it in white paint, and flicked it at the painting to create those splatters and droplets. It’s like being in 3rd grade art class all over again.

Put your piece in a frame (I got mine from Pier 1) and you’re done! Pretty easy, huh?
