What to Wear to a Black Tie Wedding

As wedding season continues, you may be receiving invitations for “black tie optional” weddings. Figuring out what to wear a formal occasion like this may be intimidating, but as long as you follow a few rules, you’ll be just fine. First, you want to opt for a full-length dress. The dramatic length is the easiest way to get that formal feel. But you can’t just throw on a maxi dress and call it a day. Pay attention to the fabric of your dress as well — opt for something with a silk or chiffon feel as opposed to a simple cotton or jersey, like this gorgeous Anthropologie dress I’m wearing. Embroidered details and dark colors are a safe bet as well, although you can certainly go lighter as long as the fabric is dressy enough.

If your dress is sort of borderline and needs something to make it more formal, there are a few things you can do. Wearing your hair in some sort of up-do is a great way to dress up your look as well. You can also accessorize with statement earrings or a fancy ring like this gorgeous Mejuri piece designed in collaboration with Green Wedding Shoes!
